Colleague accommodation rooms are predominantly 5m x 4m in size, air-conditioned and contain a small fridge, bed, own bathroom or shared bathroom (depending on your accommodation type) and courtyard or balcony (depending on the location). There is no charge for electricity and water, providing a great opportunity for staff to save money during their stay on Hayman Island. Bed linen including 1 set of sheets, doona, pillows, and 1 bath towel will be supplied to you on arrival.
We suggest you bring the following items: toiletries including face washer, coat hangers and shower items, beach towels, a power board and extension cord for appliances, your own stereo / speaker, an alarm clock, an iron, a laundry basket, sewing kit, shoe cleaner and of course, personal items such as photos, books and stationary.
A shopping centre including Big W is located in Cannonvale, close to Airlie Beach for any additional items you may need. It is also advisable that you bring a first aid kit for personal use.
For the sports minded, most equipment is supplied. You may wish to bring workout gear for the gym, a tennis or squash racquet, fishing rods and tackle, swim suits and goggles, as well as casual sports clothes to play
cricket, volleyball or other team activities.
For the outdoors, we recommend you bring the following: sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent, a beach bag big enough to fit your snorkel, fins and even a picnic, reef shoes and good walking shoes for bushwalks, an insulated drink or food container, sunglasses (polarised are good protection from the water and glare) and good wet weather gear (including rain coat).
For the resort, life is very social, so it is a good idea to pack some evening wear. Remember appropriate clothes for the climate. It gets very hot and humid during Summer (up to 35 degrees C), so light clothing is best. Winter
can be quite cool (down to 12 degrees C) so 2 or 3 sweaters, tracksuits and jeans and long pants will get you through colder months. Around the Staff Village, the dress is casual but footwear must be worn at all times. It is recommended that you have an all purpose shoe, such as a deck shoe, as thongs and reef sandals are not to be worn in the resort and guest contact areas or on the boat and launch transfers.
